How to copy an existing Magento website locally

Asked by: sethDiaz 2441 views ,

I’m getting a difficult time to run my Magento website in local server using xampp. I’ve already downloaded all things in the general public_html towards the

htdocs folder. It’s giving us an error after it is loaded.

SQLSTATE[HY000] [1045] Access denied for user ‘mySite_magstore’@'localhost’ (using password: YES)

I loaded in the phpmyadmin panel to determine the password but it’s not loading the main one from this site however the brand new one I’ve locally. I am quite assured

that I’m missing something here.

All the details I’ve discovered on the internet is regarding establishing a brand new website using the xampp but tend to not find anything about utilizing an existing

one. If anyone can help me would be great or provide me the links where I can find the solution.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you!

    Hi Seth,

Listed below are the few things you need to consider in installing your Magento website locally:
    1. Copy all files and download it to your xamp htdocs folder.
    2. Dump your database and export it to your localhost PhpMyadmin.
    3. Edit app/etc/local.xml file and change the database info that suite in your localhost user.
    E.g., user: root pass: “”
    4. Change your base urls in core_config_data table into your preferred localhost url.
    5. Clear your cache in app/var/cache.

Please let me know if you still encounter error’s and what would it be.
